We were packed and ready to leave Celebration Church ahead of schedule this morning. Our last order of business in New Orleans was to visit the number one tourist attraction in Louisiana - the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas. The aquarium lost more than 10,000 fish after Hurricane Katrina hit and was subsequently closed for eight months. The massive loss of life was not caused by flooding but was due to the failure of the generators that should have kept the aquarium's life-support system running. We all enjoyed our time at the aquarium. The stingrays, sharks, and sea turtles seemed to be the favorite attractions among our group.
We stopped in Slidell for a fast food lunch before our long afternoon drive. At 6:30 PM we arrived at the Riverchase Galleria in Birmingham and had an hour to eat dinner before we hit the road one more time for the hour-long drive to Cullman. After we had unloaded at the Holiday Inn Express, the juniors distributed an appropriate paper plate award to each student and counselor. Guess which counselor received the "What are they going to do, fire me?" award? As we wrapped up our final evening group time, Josh reminded the students how proud he was of them and Mark told them what a pleasure it has been for him to watch so many of them grow up in the church. Mark then told a couple of old choir tour stories - be sure and ask your students to share these with you!
We are looking forward to singing at Mary Fowler's grandparents' church in Hartselle on Sunday morning before returning to FBC for our home concert. We'll see you there!
