Time flies when you're working hard! It's difficult to believe that we've driven down Alvar Street for the last time in our Anchor Trailways busses. This morning our older youth continued to work on the two houses on Alvar Street. Among other tasks, they worked on siding, built stairs, caulked, and organized the storage container. Meanwhile, our younger students spent the first part of the morning organizing the storage containers at Habitat's staging grounds before being relocated for a new task. Their final assignment for the week was to put sod in the yards of two homes that had already been completed. It was a messy (and smelly) job, but they were willing to get dirty to get the job done.

We ate our sack lunches once again on the busses as we drove through the Lower 9th Ward, the area of New Orleans that experienced catastrophic devastation when Hurricane Katrina hit the city. Many of the homes in that area have been bulldozed since last year, and all that remains on many blocks are foundations and weeds. The vast majority of the homes that are still standing are unoccupied. The brief tour was a sober reminder of how far the city still has to go in the rebuilding process.

The students led the sports camp for a final time at Celebration Church's day camp. Dodgeball was big hit - literally. After the sports camp, we headed back "home" to shower, nap, and hang out. After we eat dinner tonight, we're going to see a movie - "Surf's Up." Tomorrow we pack up and move out!
