        <![CDATA[<span class="mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image"><img alt="Camp2008-PCB.jpg" src="http://www.firstbaptiststudents.org/i/events/camp/Camp2008-PCB.jpg" width="350" height="415" class="mt-image-right" style="float: right; margin: 0 0 20px 20px;" /></span><p>Every day there is a required passage from one of Paul’s letters that must be recited before you can recite other random verses that you have memorized. After you have recited the required passage, additional verses must be recited in groups of at least five. Verses should be recited in the New International Version unless you bring another version of the Bible that a counselor can use to check the accuracy of your memorization. You must recite the verses word for word. The required passage is worth 10,000 points per verse, while additional verses are worth 2,500 points each. For the past two years, Scripture memory points have determined which grade won the Camp Championship. Scripture memory wins championships! </p>

<h2>Monday – Philippians 2:5-11</h2>

<p>“Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death – even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”</p>

<h2>Tuesday – Philippians 4:4-8</h2>

<p>“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.” </p>

<h2>Wednesday – Colossians 3:12-17</h2>

<p>“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” </p>

<h2>Thursday – Ephesians 4:1-6</h2>

<p>“As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit – just as you were called to one hope when you were called – one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” <br />
 </p>

<h1>SUGGESTED ADDITIONAL VERSES FOR MEMORIZATION </h1>

<p><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;">Psalm 100:1-5</span><br />
“Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.” </p>

<p><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;">Psalm 23:1-6 </span><br />
“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” </p>

<p><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;">Psalm 1:1-6</span><br />
“Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. These talented students spent six days leading children in after-school Vacation Bible School; performing and ministering to juveniles in three separate detention centers; sharing our testimonies through song and word at a retirement complex, a downtown outdoor community area, a minor league baseball game, and a church neighborhood cookout; and leading in worship at First Baptist Knoxville. Our students have been stretched outside their comfort zones as they shared the love of Christ with hurting individuals.<br /><br />

We thank you for your prayers during our journey and hope many of you joined us on Sunday evening, June 8, as we shared our week of ministry with our home church.<br class="webkit-block-placeholder" /><div><br /><br />

<p></p><p>It has been an incredible journey with this group of seniors who were sophomores 
  when I arrived and weren’t even driving at the time. Yikes! Much like 
  iPhone, iPod, and other techno-toys whose future is inconceivable, I believe 
  the future for this class is inconceivable. Why? Because there is someone who 
  plays a big role in their life, in all our lives. He is our God of mystery. 
  Seniors, everyone, no matter what your future holds, leave God in the unresolved 
  equation. </p>

<p><em>And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, 
  together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is 
  the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that 
  you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.</em> (Ephesians 
  3:17b-19)</p>
<p>These are the words that were selected for their mission trip to New Brunswick. 
  Our Class of 2008 will be memorizing and meditating upon this prayer from Paul, 
  and I believe it is perfect for their new beginning. Only if our faith is rooted 
  in God can we truly be fulfilled and satisfied. I understand that we all seek 
  satisfaction, fulfillment and purpose. We all have goals and dreams for our 
  future that mostly include career and family and the great friendships that 
  are established in college life. But our prayer for you, Seniors, as your church 
  family, is to continue to be rooted and established in love so that you might 
  experience just how amazing God’s love is. Like the passage above says, 
  you can be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God, and that is our 
  ultimate satisfaction. </p>

        <![CDATA[<p>We are extremely excited about offering our <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;">Summer Staffer Program</span>! For years, former students have come back to serve as summer staffers while they are home from college, but it is possible that some students may have missed out on the opportunity because they were not familiar with Summer Staffers and the impact they can have in a Student Ministry. </p>
<p>We believe that the Summer Staffer Program will be an opportunity for college students to gain valuable ministry experience, become equipped for future ministry, and grow in their personal relationship with Jesus Christ.</p>
<h2>MINISTRY TRAINING</h2>
<p>Our heart for each college student that joins us for the Summer Staffer Program is that they would grow in their love and understanding for God's word and, in turn, their ability to teach it to others. We will offer key times of training each week to give Staffers a better grasp of the major themes of scripture, how to study scripture in depth, and how to teach scripture to others in a truthful and applicable way.</p>
<p>Josh will spend time each week talking to Staffers about the specifics of what it is really like to do full-time ministry. We hope to give each of our Staffers practical tools to equip them for a life of ministry that will serve them and others well for years to come.</p>
<h2>PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE</h2>
<p>Each college student involved in the Summer Staffer Program will have the opportunity to help us lead and execute both our Middle School and High School summer ministry. This will include service activities at KIPP Academy in East Nashville, assistance with our weekly Middle School and High School program The Edge, leading a weekly small group Bible study, and tons of chances to invest relationally in the lives of students.</p>
<h2>COMMUNITY</h2>
<p>There is nothing quite like getting to do ministry in the context of team. The Summer Staffer team will get the opportunity to deepen friendships as they serve together, learn together, and share life together in accountable, encouraging relationships.</p>
<h3>DETAILS</h3>
<p>· This is an unpaid position, but we believe that the investment you will receive is invaluable.</p>
<p>· The Summer Staffer Program runs from May 16th to August 6th (We can flex with some of these dates)</p>
<p>· We are looking for at least six guys and six girls</p>

<p>Cost: $225 per student ($200 for additional siblings) $50 Deposit must be turned in by <strong>April 27 </strong>to the Music Office.</p>
<p>ALL students in grades 7 – 12 are invited to join us on this exciting ministry trip. You don't have to be a participant in SMART/Chapel Choir to join us. There's a place for everyone!!</p>
<h3>Mark your calendars!! </h3>
<p>Departure—Morning of Monday, June 2.</p>
<p>Return—Sunday afternoon, June 8, in time to present the Home Concert at 6:00 p.m. and share our ministry report at 7:00.</p>
<p>We will minister alongside Norm and Debbie Cannada at West Charleston Baptist Church. We will also be sleeping and eating in their church facilities.</p>
<h3>Cost of $225 ($200 for additional siblings in a family) </h3>
<p>covers transportation, 6 nights lodging, most weekday meals, 2 t-shirts, and admissions. (If you need financial assistance, please contact the music office, 664–6030, or student office, 664–6008.) $50 Deposit due April 27. </p>

<p>Join us Friday April 4 (5:30-9:00 P.M.) at Forest Hills Baptist Church for this outstanding seminar for parents of teens, featuring the wisdom of Wayne Rice.  Cost is $25 per person which includes dinner, refreshments and conference materials. </p>

<p>During these seminars, we’ll help you understand why teenagers act the way they do; and how you as a parent can respond in positive ways to normal adolescent behavior. Some of the issues that we cover:</p>

<h3>Session One: “The Changing World of Today’s Teenager”</h3>

<ul>
<li><p>How the world has changed and how you can respond to those changes in positive ways.</p></li>
<li><p>How youth have changed physically, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually and what you can do to work with your children’s development rather than against it.</p></li>
<li><p>Why conflict is normal with parents and teenagers, how to evaluate and deal with it, and how to respond to rebellion when it occurs.</p></li>
<li><p>Why friends are so important to your teenager and how to make sure peer pressure doesn’t have the last word in your family.</p></li>
<li><p>How teenagers are forming values and beliefs and how you can influence your kids to make good decisions and develop a strong faith.</p></li>
</ul>

<h3>Session Two: “Principles for Effective Parenting”</h3>

<p>After a refreshment break, we’ll give you our “short list” of practical and easy-to-remember principles to help you build positive relationships with your kids and to encourage them towards responsibility and self-reliance. Here are just a few of the topics we’ll discuss: </p>

<ul>
<li><p>How to make sure the rules you set for your teenager don’t lead to rebellion.</p></li>
<li><p>How to stay close to your kids when they become teens.</p></li>
<li><p>How to encourage positive behavior in your teen and build his or her self-image.</p></li>
<li><p>How to decide which battles are worth fighting and which are not.</p></li>
<li><p>How to talk with your teenager about sex and other tough issues.</p></li>
<li><p>How to effectively use natural and logical consequences rather than punishment.</p></li>
<li><p>How to avoid “handicapping” your teenager by making life too easy for them.</p></li>
<li><p>How to relax and enjoy your kids more while they are teens!</p></li>
</ul>

<h2>Who is Wayne Rice?</h2>

<p>Wayne is the founder and director of HomeWord’s Understanding Your Teenager seminars. Besides conducting dozens of seminars each year, he is an author, musician and frequent speaker at events for youth, youth workers, and parents.</p>

<p>Wayne has worked with teenagers since 1963 in church and para-church youth ministry. He is co-founder of Youth Specialties, the nation’s largest provider of resources and training for youth ministry, and has authored or co-authored more than thirty books for youth workers and parents includingCleared for Takeoff, Enjoy Your Middle Schooler, Junior High Ministry, and the best-selling Hot Illustrations for Youth Talks series.</p>

He was an original member of the group “Brush Arbor,” voted Vocal Group of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards in 1973. He also performs with a San Diego bluegrass band called “Lighthouse” and hosts a weekly radio program called “The Bluegrass Special.”</p>
